Required before purchase

E-Weapon Informational Briefing

Hawaiʻi law requires this briefing before you can buy a TASER or energy weapon. Read it here, fill in your details, then print it and bring it in or send it to us ahead of your visit.

This is not an AXON TASER training course

It is the informational briefing the law requires a licensed dealer to give you. It does not replace TASER training and it is not legal advice.

State and city requirements

Licensed seller
All TASER and E-Gun purchases must be made from a licensed City and County of Honolulu E-Gun dealer. The Safety Store is a registered and licensed E-Gun dealer, permit 43529, and the sales licence is posted in the store.
Age and identification
Purchasers must be 21 years of age or older. A valid driver licence or State ID must be presented with the completed application at the time of purchase.
Background check
A criminal background check is required for all E-Gun purchases. It is processed at the time of purchase and a 10 dollar non-refundable fee applies.
Prohibited persons
State law prohibits ownership by individuals with felony convictions, domestic violence or drug-related offenses, an active temporary restraining order, ongoing psychiatric or mental health treatment, a valid medical marijuana card, or fugitive status in any county or state. Selling or transferring a TASER to a prohibited person is a criminal offense.

Safety and use notices

  • Review all warnings and dangers materials included in your TASER kit.
  • If your TASER has been submerged or exposed to water, do not use it. Return it to AXON for inspection or service.
  • Do not use, discharge or store your TASER in flammable or explosive environments.
  • TASER devices are for justifiable self-defense only. Never aim, point or discharge the device at anyone except in a lawful self-defense situation.
  • Handle your TASER with care and respect, similar to a firearm. Conduct monthly inspections as recommended in the manual.
  • Keep it secured and under your control at all times. When not in use, store it in a locked, secure location.
  • TASER and E-Guns are non-transferable, non-sellable and non-giftable. If you no longer wish to own the device, return it to the Honolulu Police Department Weapons Division for disposal and obtain a police reference number, or bring it to the store for de-registration and manufacturer return processing.

The full briefing and question sheet

The complete document includes the waiver and declaration you sign, and an eight-section question and answer sheet covering general knowledge, safety, operation, effective use, legal knowledge, maintenance, Hawaiʻi requirements and situational awareness.

Fill it in before you come in

Read the briefing above before you fill this in

Hawaiʻi law requires this briefing, a background check and a signature in person before an electric gun changes hands. Filling this in online saves time at the counter. It does not complete the purchase, and it is not a permit.

We deliberately do not ask for your Social Security number on this page. That line stays blank and you complete it at the store with your ID in hand.

Your details

Social Security number: completed in person at the store.

Confirm you have read each section

Signature

Signed at the counter, witnessed by staff. The printed sheet leaves room for it.
