How to Maintain Your Byrna Launcher

Proper maintenance of your Byrna launcher ensures reliable performance when you need it most. Here is a complete maintenance guide.

After Every Use Session: Remove the CO2 cartridge from the launcher. Fire any remaining gas through the barrel in a safe direction. Remove the magazine and clear the barrel to ensure no projectile is chambered. Wipe down the exterior with a clean, dry cloth.

Monthly Maintenance (Even If Not Used): Inspect the O-rings on the CO2 piercing mechanism. Look for cracks, wear, or deformation. Replace if needed (replacement O-rings are inexpensive and available at our store). Check the barrel for any debris or residue. A barrel cleaning swab designed for .68 cal works well.

Lubrication: Apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the O-rings every 2-3 months. Do NOT use petroleum-based lubricants as they can degrade the O-rings. Byrna sells a recommended maintenance kit that includes the right lubricant.

Storage: Store your Byrna without a CO2 cartridge installed. Leaving a cartridge installed for extended periods can compress the O-ring and cause gas leaks. Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Avoid extreme temperatures (both hot and cold) as they can affect O-ring integrity.

Projectile Storage: Keep projectiles in their original sealed containers. Store in a cool, dry environment. Avoid exposure to temperatures above 120 degrees F, which can degrade chemical payloads. Check expiration dates on chemical rounds (typically 3-5 years from manufacture).

CO2 Cartridge Storage: CO2 cartridges can be stored indefinitely in a cool, dry place. Inspect for dents or corrosion before use. Never use a damaged cartridge.

Troubleshooting Common Issues: If your launcher is not firing, check the CO2 cartridge (may be empty). If you hear gas but no projectile fires, check for a barrel obstruction. If the trigger feels stiff, the O-ring may need lubrication. If you experience gas leaks, replace the piercing pin O-ring.

When to Get Professional Service: If your launcher has been dropped from height, shows visible damage to the frame, or is not functioning after basic troubleshooting, contact Byrna customer support or bring it to Live Safe Hawaii for evaluation.
