How the PepperBall lineup is organized
- Air system. Most of these launchers use an air system, listed by size in cubic inches and pressure in psi. The TRP is the exception, with a quick-puncture 12g CO2 system, and the PPC Breacher can also run an 88-gram single-use CO2 cartridge.
- Feed. Some use magazines, some use a hopper. Magazines hold 10 or 15 rounds depending on the model. Hoppers hold 60 rounds on the TAC-Patrol and 160 rounds on the TAC-SA Pro and FTC Pro.
- Range and projectiles. Listed maximum ranges are 100 ft or 150 ft. Several models take both round and VXR projectiles, while the TAC models and FTC Pro list round projectiles only. Our compatibility guide is the place to check what fits.
For home defense: TRP and FTC Pro
The TRP, short for Tactical Response Pistol, is $604, a pistol-format launcher. Its listing describes it as originally designed for law enforcement and now legal for civilian self-defense.

The VKS Phantom is $2,500, a compact launcher. It handles like a machine pistol and is built for fast response in tight spaces.

The TAC-SA Pro is $1,513, a semi-automatic .68 caliber launcher with a 30 cu in 3000 psi aluminium air system, a 160-round hopper, a red dot sight and a maximum range of 100 ft. Its listing names daily patrol, area denial and crowd management among its roles.
The TAC-Patrol is $1,700 and upgrades the TAC-SA Pro Plus. It uses an 18 cu in 4500 psi carbon fibre air system, a 60-round hopper and a push-button folding stock, with no recoil and a maximum range of 100 ft.
The PPC Breacher is $1,284, a dedicated glass-breaking launcher in high-visibility markings so it stands out from a standard launcher under stress. It carries three 10-round magazines, takes round and VXR projectiles, uses a 13 inch smooth bore barrel, and lists a maximum range of 150 ft.

Shipping is charged by the largest box an order needs, not per item. Seven of these launchers ship rifle-length at $68. The TRP ships at the $32 large rate. Hawaii rules and responsible ownership
According to our Hawaii laws guide, CO2 and air launchers like PepperBall devices are not classified as firearms in Hawaii. They are legal to purchase and own for people 18 and older, with no firearm permit, registration or background check required. They cannot be carried concealed in certain restricted areas, such as government buildings, schools and airports. Using any device to threaten or harm someone unlawfully is a criminal offense.
